Dearly Beloved,

As you see by the headline above, All Saints Church & School return to normal operating hours and activities this coming Sunday, October 13.

On Sunday, we will worship at 8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. Sunday School classes begin at 9:45 a.m. Our School returns to classes Monday morning at 8:15 a.m. and the normal mid-week activities resume this coming week.

Local Response/Recovery

This past Wednesday afternoon, Henderson County Emergency Management (the county wherein we are situated) announced that the county was moving from Disaster Response status to Disaster Recovery. The overnight curfew has been lifted.

As of my writing today, Buncombe County is still in an Emergency Response status and the overnight curfew has been modified to 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Water Crisis

Buncombe County is still struggling to return water service to its residents. The outlook is grim for the return of service in the near future as the portion of the water system which delivers water to 80% of the residents was destroyed. Many of our parishioners in Buncombe County are affected by this lack of water service. This is the perfect opportunity to reach out to your fellow parishioners to help by doing such things as offering showers and laundry facilities. Please do so! I believe most of us have electricity and cell service seems to be stable in our area, so reach out!

Public water service in Henderson County, which is provided by the City of Hendersonville, has been fully restored.

Water Reminder

All Saints has clean drinking water available, so please feel free to come by the church and fill up! If the office is closed, the yard faucet directly under the big, red cross on the east side of the church and the hose bib beside the outside kitchen door both are on the local water system and are safe to drink. The yard faucet beside the well pump house (behind the Rector’s parking spot) is available for any other water needs, like washing dishes or flushing toilets.

Update on Damaged Homes

  • Dss. Cynthia has spoken to Randall Peninger, Sandy & Randy Peninger’s son, who advised there has not been much movement on repairs to their home in Avery’s Creek. He has had difficulty getting a response from the family’s insurance company. Randy & Sandy are now staying at their daughter’s home in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, over toward Greensboro.
  • Regarding my home, the insurance adjuster met with Kathy and me this past Wednesday to begin the process of moving forward with repairs.
  • Our newest member, Debra Anthony, and her husband Jim also suffered tree damage to their house, the tree striking on top of 2 bedrooms. Their vehicles were also damaged by falling trees. They do have power and water. They are able to stay in their home and are also awaiting the repair process.
  • Jeff & Tamara Sparacino suffered flood waters entering their basement which damaged their furnace. They live in Buncombe County and do not have water but electricity has returned.

News of Note

Pat Ziebell and her husband Wayne evacuated to Eustis, Florida, to a family member’s home, when it became clear that water would not be restored soon in Buncombe County. Unfortunately, Eustis was in the path of the strong side of Hurricane Milton. There was no physical damage due to Milton, but Pat was hospitalized in the aftermath. I spoke to her today and she believes it was the stress of the situation that caused her hospitalization. They were running tests to ensure she did not suffer a stroke or other ailment. She does have her cell phone with her and I am sure she would appreciate a call. If you want her number, give me a call.

That is the news for today and I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday morning!

Blessings,

Fr. Erich
