Dearly Beloved,
Life here at All Saints is kicking back into high gear with quite a bit on the schedule for us so I thought I would just update you this week on what we have going on around here.
Betty Parkinson, Rest in Peace
As most of you are aware, long-time member Betty Parkinson died this past Monday, April 16. She was 93. Her death was peaceful and grace-filled, as was her life. Please pray for the repose of her soul as she rests in the arms of her blessed Savior. Here funeral will be here at the church on Saturday, April 28, at 11:00 a.m. Interment in our cemetery and a reception will immediately follow the Requiem Eucharist. Please be here that day as we bid adieu to a lady who was such an incredible influence on our lives here at All Saints.
Bill Conner
As I write, Barbara Conner has made the very hard decision to remove life support and allow her husband Bill to pass away. Please keep Barbara, Ashley, Anthony, and all of Bill’s family in your prayers at this most difficult time.
News of Note
Gretchen Briden had knee replacement surgery yesterday at Pardee Hospital. She expects to remain at Pardee until Sunday and then be transferred over to Transylvania Hospital for rehabilitation. Please pray for her and that her recovery might be speedy so she might return home soon.
Construction Update
Yesterday, the mason hired by our general contractor dug the footings for the office addition and prepared everything for the concrete to be poured for the foundation. At this moment, we are waiting on the inspector from the county to stop by today and approve the prep work. If we get approval, the concrete will be poured today. I have posted pictures of yesterday’s work on our parish website and also on our parish Facebook page. Click here for the pictures here on our website and click here for the Facebook Page. Here is a picture of Bob Brooks “in the hole!”
Bible Study
Wednesday night Bible Study is back in session. We are looking at the Minor Prophets from the Old Testament. We had our introductory session this past Wednesday and got started on the Book of the Prophet Hosea. The introductory material is available to pick up before the next class. Just ask me for it if you missed our class this week.
Tuesday Book Study
Our book study returns this coming Tuesday, April 24. We will be discussing a biblical fiction work: Cain: The Story of the First Murder and the Birth of an Unstoppable Evil. One reviewer writes about this book, “Cain is a wonderful novel that explores the ‘what ifs’ of the world’s first family. Brennan McPherson explores the questions we’ve all had about Adam and Eve. ‘What happened to Cain?’ is just the beginning.” The cost per book is $5.00. Pick up your copy on Sunday and read chapters 1-6 for Tuesday’s class (its only about 40 pages!).
Ladies Primrose Tea
On Saturday, May 5, the Ladies of All Saints will gather at Sally Blackburn’s home for their annual Primrose Tea. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the parish hall. Please let us know if you will be there that day. If you would like to contribute a dish, please sign-up for that as well. This is one of our highlight events of the year, so plan on joining us and bring along a friend!
Men’s Breakfast
The men of the parish will gather at Mills River Restaurant at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 for fellowship and breakfast. Immediately after, we will head over to Meg Brinley’s new home to help her get her furniture in order.
That is about it for this week. Remember to keep on praying for this parish family, for all those on our parish prayer lists, and please pray for all those for whom no one else will pray this day.
Blessings,
Fr. Erich
