Lightning Update
Dearly Beloved,
Here are some updates on the repairs from the lightning strike.
Local Area Network
Our local area network, as well as the Wifi throughout the building, has been repaired.
Telephones
Phone service has not yet been restored. Optimum is scheduled to return tomorrow, Wednesday, August 5, to trace the problem. Until our phone lines are restored, please feel free to call us at the following numbers: (Update Aug. 5: Phones have been repaired)
-
828-620-0860 (my cell phone)
-

-

Organ
After several hours of diagnostic work, our organ repair technician has determined that one of the main circuit boards is faulty. He removed that board and must send it to the manufacturer’s facilities for repair or replacement. It is likely that our organ will be out of service into September. We have set up an electronic keyboard in the choir area of church which will allow us to have music in the interim.
Bell Tower
The computer that runs our bells has been replaced, as well as what is called a “MIDI Interface,” which allows the computer to communicate with the bells. There is still another small power adapter which must be replaced. Our electrician will provide that in the next day or so. We have also taken this opportunity to have the chain mechanisms on the bells upgraded so that the chains will no longer jump off the sprockets occasionally.
Insurance
We have reported this incident to our insurance company and have been assured that we are covered for the damage.
That is all the information we have at this time. Be sure to read on below to see our special events happening in August.
Blessings and see you in church!
Fr. Erich

Several of you have asked, so now we have it! The summer evening book club will host it’s inaugural gathering on Friday, August 14, from 5:45—7:45 p.m. We will be discussing Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan. This WWII era novel is based on the true story of a forgotten hero’s bravery and sacrifice during one of history’s darkest hours.
Our fireside discussion will be on St. Timothy’s porch. Dinner (to be determined) will be something from the grill. The cost for dinner is $5.00 per person.
Books, e-books, and audible are available on Amazon.com. Dss. Cynthia has copies for $15.00.
There is a sign-up sheet in the entryway of the church. Invite a friend!
Bible & Music Study
This past spring, we started a study of Handel’s Messiah, but were unable to finish due to the approach of summer. On the Wednesday evenings of August 19 & 26, at 6:30 p.m. after Holy Communion, we will jump back in and finish up this survey. Class will last until 8:00 p.m. Please bring your own dinner so we can begin quickly and be able to finish up within our allotted time.
End of Summer & Deanery Picnic
On Saturday, August 29, starting at 11:00 a.m., we will have an end of summer picnic extravaganza here at All Saints. It will give us an opportunity to officially welcome Fr. Steve, his wife Jennifer, and their children Abby and Josh, before all our usual activities begin in September. We have also invited the parishes of our Deanery, which encompasses western NC, eastern TN, and upstate SC. This will give us a chance to meet old friends, and new, who share our Anglican Way of Christianity.
