Dearly Beloved,
I ended my sermon yesterday with the following sentence: Jesus warns us in today’s Gospel: “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer,” he says, “I have overcome the world.” We, too, with him, overcome the world, precisely by the practicality of prayer.
Prayer is practical because it is prayer that keeps us “unspotted from the world,” as St. James tells us in today’s Epistle. It is in prayer, when we ask in Jesus’ Name, that we ask in perfect submission to God’s will. And when we perfectly submit to God’s will in prayer, we will have our answer and we will live in God’s peace.
Thanks to all of you who participated in our Open Arms Pregnancy Center car seat drive. We were able to provide about 20 car seats for the expectant mothers at the Center. I’ll let you know next week exactly how many we were able to provide.
And don’t forget, Ascension Day is this Thursday and we will celebrate the Holy Communion on Thursday at 12 Noon, as well as Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. We will also start a short term Bible Study this week. Read the announcement below.

Ascension Day
This coming Thursday, May 14, is Ascension Day. This event, the Ascension of our Lord, seems to have become the most forgotten of all the great Acts in the drama of our redemption. It is so important that it is recalled whenever we celebrate the Holy Communion when the priest says, “…having in remembrance his blessed passion and precious death, his mighty resurrection and glorious ascension.” (BCP p. 81) Won’t you then remember his glorious Ascension? We will celebrate the day with Holy Communion at 12 noon. We will also celebrate it the prior evening, Wednesday night, at 6:00 p.m.
A Bible Study on Handel’s Messiah
This week our Wednesday (May 13) evening Bible Study, inspired by our study of the Book of the Prophet Isaiah, will turn to the Scripture passages used in Handel’s work that highlight who Jesus is and what he came to do. Of course, because this is focused on the text of The Messiah, we will definitely be listening to some music too!
Come join us for this study which will last 4 to 5 weeks before we take our summer break. This would be a great time for you to join us for just a few weeks at our Wednesday study. We will return to Isaiah’s book (Chapters 40-66) after the summer.
Vacation Bible School
Our 2026 Vacation Bible School will be Monday, June 29—Thursday, July 2. Hours will be 9:00 a.m.—12:00 p.m. daily. Volunteers are needed to make this a memorable time for the children that will attend. If you are able to volunteer at any time during those four days, please see Allison Sewrey or Dss. Cynthia. We will have a meeting for volunteers in the coming weeks, date to be announced.
