Dearly Beloved,
Our phone lines were finally repaired this past Wednesday afternoon. All is in working order. I do not have any updates on the organ or the bell tower, so we will just have to “wait and see.”
Directly below is a note from our own Ethan Byrd, which I received last week but was unable to get into the Scoop. By the time you read this, Ethan, traveling with his father Eric, will have arrived at Nashotah House Seminary up in Wisconsin to unload the moving truck into their apartment at the seminary. Ethan’s wife Margaret and their daughter Lottie Ruth are traveling with Rebecca Byrd and will arrive there on Monday.
As I mentioned today in church, getting a seminary education to become a parish priest is a rather costly endeavor. At Nashotah House, the cost for tuition, fees, and housing approach $40,000 per year. Nashotah is unique in that seminarians generally are not allowed to work an outside job, as their entire day from 7 a.m. through 6 p.m. (not to mention study time) is accounted for with all the activities of the seminary. Needless to say, it behooves all of us to assist Ethan with his expenses. The vestry has already set aside $3000 to assist and we turn now to you for your help so Ethan does not get loaded down with student loan debt. Please prayerfully consider how you might be able assist with funding and make any checks out to All Saints, marking your check with “Seminary Fund.” This is a lasting way for all of us to make a mark on the future of Christ’s Holy Church, by raising up priests for the coming generations!

A Note from Ethan
Dear All Saints family,
We are finally moving! Margaret and I are currently packing up our apartment and we will begin the trek to our new home on Saturday, August 8th. Lottie Ruth (14 months old!) is standing and walking now, and she keeps us on our toes by trying to unpack all the things we stow away! I am signed up for several classes this fall, and am especially excited about Church Music. Please pray for us, especially for trustfulness (see BCP p. 596), as there are so many unknowns in this endeavor. We look forward to sending you updates, so be on the lookout for those.

Summer Book Club
Our Summer Book Club will be gathering again this coming Tuesday, August 11, from 10:30 a.m.—12:30 p.m. We will be discussing Beneath A Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan.
Lunch will be served, $5.00 per person. You can still sign-up by giving Dss. Cynthia a call in the office (828-891-7216).
Faith by the Fireside Book Club
The newest event on our calendar, the Faith by the Fireside Book Club will hold it’s inaugural gathering this coming Friday, August 14, from 5:45—7:45 p.m. We will be discussing Beneath a Scarlet Sky by Mark Sullivan. This WWII era novel is based on the true story of a forgotten hero’s bravery and sacrifice during one of history’s darkest hours.
Our fireside discussion will be on St. Timothy’s porch. Dinner will be hamburgers and hotdogs on the grill. The cost for dinner is $5.00 per person. You are more than welcome to bring your favorite beverage. We will have tea, coffee, and lemonade available. Be sure to invite a friend to join us!

Bible & Music Study
This past spring, we started a study of Handel’s Messiah, but were unable to finish due to the approach of summer. On the Wednesday evenings of August 19 & 26, at 6:30 p.m. after Holy Communion, we will jump back in and finish up this survey. Class will last until 8:00 p.m. Please bring your own dinner so we can begin quickly and be able to finish up within our allotted time.
End of Summer & Deanery Picnic
On Saturday, August 29, starting at 11:00 a.m., we will have an end of summer picnic extravaganza here at All Saints. It will give us an opportunity to officially welcome Fr. Steve, his wife Jennifer, and their children Abby and Josh, before all our usual activities begin in September. We have also invited the parishes of our Deanery, which encompasses western NC, eastern TN, and upstate SC. This will give us a chance to meet old friends, and new, who share our Anglican Way of Christianity.
