We begin the new year, as we do every year, celebrating the Feast Day of the Circumcision of Christ. It is the day our Lord received His name Jesus and, by His circumcision, became “obedient to the law” for us. The sermon uses the text of Isaiah’s great messianic prophecy (Chapter 9) to provide for us things about our Savior to ponder in our hearts, just as the Gospel lesson today (Luke 2:15-21) says Mary did upon the birth of her Son.
