It is hard to believe that Advent is just around the corner! In our Junior and Senior Youth Sunday School, we have spent our Sunday mornings this fall discussing the Dogma and Doctrine of traditional Anglicanism as a stepping-stone in our understanding of putting on the Armor of God. We will further this discussion with a book and Bible study on A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Not only is this story appropriate for us as we move through Advent in preparation of Christmastide, it is considered one the most inspiring and transforming fictional stories ever told to bring about change in our own hearts as well as motivating us to transform the lives of those around us. We will be using A Christmas Carol as a study on how to put our faith into action, immersing ourselves in the joy of one man’s redemption.

“With a deep sense of my great responsibility always upon me when I exercise my art, one of my most constant and most earnest endeavours has been to exhibit in all my good people some faint reflections of the teachings of our great Master, and unostentatiously to lead the reader up to those teachings as the great source of moral goodness. All my strongest illustrations are derived from the New Testament; all my social abuses are shown as departures from its spirit; all my good people are humble, charitable, faithful, and forgiving. Over and over again, I claim them in express words as disciples of the Founder of our religion.” ~ Charles Dickens

Beginning on Sunday, November 15, our study of A Christmas Carol will last for five weeks. We will read a chapter (or “stave” as Dickens calls them) each week and have our discussions on Sunday mornings during Sunday school. If your student needs a copy of the book, please let me know as soon as possible so that I can make an order. It would be best if everyone had their own copy for reading at home and during class. If you would prefer eBook format, you can download the novella for .90 at Amazon. Please copy the link below if you would like to purchase the eBook.

For extra fun, it would be great if our group could get together at some time during Advent and watch the movie outside of church at a host-house, with dinner and popcorn! I will let everyone know as soon as we have a place, time, and date for that event.

Faithfully in Christ, Dss. Cynthia
