Dearly Beloved,Here at All Saints Church, the fall is, in so many ways, our busiest time of year. All of our classes are back in session, our big events such as the Fall Fish Fry and Craft Market happen, and this year we are in the midst of upgrading our kitchen and building a picnic pavilion. And yet with all the “busy-ness” here at church and certainly in our lives away from here, we must always remember one important thing—to give thanks. The Gospel lesson for this coming Sunday is of the ten lepers who were cleansed. As you likely recall, and will hear on Sunday, only one of those cleansed returned to give thanks. All were showered with a blessing, yet only one gave thanks. It is in returning to Christ and giving thanks that this one stranger, as Jesus calls him, is said to be made whole. How about you? Have you been given a blessing, said to yourself “how wonderful,” and then continued on your merry way? That is what the nine did. Or did you stop, acknowledge your Savior, fall on your knees, and thank Him, like the stranger did? Do you wish to be made whole? If so, do not let the frenetic pace of your life or our life together get in the way. Return always to Christ and give Him thanks. Whenever you come into the church, you are assured that you have come into Christ’s presence. At 10:00 a.m., they have Morning Prayer as well as a short lesson appropriate for the Sunday celebrated in church. After this, they break into their age group classes for their usual lessons. Bible Study & Book StudyWednesday night Bible Study has returned. This coming week we start on Chapter 17 in St. Matthew’s Gospel. Our Book Study started back up again this past Tuesday. We are studying Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life Together, which is a book about Christian fellowship and community. Its not too late to join us for this study. We are still in Chapter 1. See Dss. Cynthia to get your copy of the book. Picnic PavilionThe work on St. Timothy’s Porch began back on September 11. All the grading work was completed in two days and this past Tuesday, September 17, the slab was poured, as you can see in the picture above. Our contractor is waiting for the materials to arrive so he can begin construction of the shelter itself. Keep your fingers crossed that we might have it finished before the Fish Fry! The contractor for this job will return this week to install the butler’s door and the new cabinets. There are pictures below and also on the website and Facebook page. Tickets are $9.00 each in advance ($10 at the door) for breaded tilapia filets, roasted potatoes, hush puppies, coleslaw, and iced tea or lemonade. Take-out will be from 5-6 p.m. and dine-in will run from 6-8 p.m. Kids under 12 eat free.There is still plenty of time to make this the incredible success it always is but, of course, we need your help. Kairos International Prison Ministry· On the weekend of October 17—20, Kairos International Prison Ministry will hold their yearly event at Mountain View Correctional Institution #3 in Spruce Pine, N.C. You can be a part of this weekend by signing up for the prayer vigil. There is no better way to support this ministry than to pray!
