Dearly Beloved,I am going to keep this week’s newsletter brief just to keep you updated on what is happening this week here at All Saints Church. Deanery Picnic TomorrowThe Deanery Picnic is tomorrow, Saturday, August 24. It runs from 12 Noon until 3 PM at the picnic shelter at the Mills River Town Center complex off NC 191. There are about 50 of us attending so it is incumbent upon us to bring side dishes to share with all our brothers and sisters from our area churches. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be provided. Our old friend Deacon Thad Osborne from Knoxville is the man that coordinates this event every year. See you tomorrow! And wear your red All Saints T-shirts! Kitchen UpdateIn honor of and in loving memory of Edwin Blackburn, we are updating the “useability” of our kitchen. Edwin absolutely enjoyed the way we always gather together for food and fellowship. With that in mind, Glen and Sally Blackburn brought a proposal to the vestry, which the vestry approved. The interior kitchen window to the parish hall will be opened up to a 10 ft by 5 ft opening, with a new serving counter extending into the parish hall side of that window. Storage cabinets will be installed under that counter. Also, a shutter will be installed over the opening so that it may be closed when kitchen work is happening while a class or other event is happening in the parish hall. A butler’s door will also be installed where the present entrance to the kitchen is located. The work will start this week. Bell UpdateI have been in touch with our bell maker, Rick Watson. Unfortunately, the arthritis in his back has “bedeviled” him terribly over the past few months. This doesn’t allow him to stand for long periods of time as he turns the bells for tuning, so that put him behind on the job that was in line before us. He says he is seeing the “light at the end of the tunnel” on that job and then will get our final two bells tuned. He was able to tune one of our bells before his health problems surfaced. All the equipment necessary to operate our bells has been manufactured, so only the tuning remains. I know it is frustrating to have to wait but think how glorious it will be when they finally are in place! Please keep Rick in your prayers as that is the best thing we can do for now. School UpdateGreat Expectations, our new high school program, began this week. It is awesome to have the young people back in the building! Classical Scholars, the middle school program, kicks of its new year with an open house on Sunday evening, August 25, at 6:00 p.m. Their classes start this coming Tuesday morning, August 27. Get Ready for Fall EducationAs a reminder, all of our usual classes are set to kick off in the next couple of weeks, so mark your calendars now.
- Adult Sunday School returns on September 8 as we begin an in-depth look at The Articles of Religion. These Articles, commonly known as the “39 Articles,” are one of the formularies our Anglican Way of Christianity and in many ways offer us the boundaries within which we practice our faith.
- Youth Sunday School will return to its regular schedule on Sunday, September 1 at 9:45 a.m., in the large classroom of Simcox Hall. Beginning on Sept. 8, we will start off our year with a four week discussion on the topic of popularity and being a Christian.
- Wednesday night Bible Study returns on September 11 and we will return to the Gospel according to St. Matthew. We are about halfway done with that book.
- Tuesday Book Study will begin again on September 17. Our book this fall is Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “Life Together,” which is a discussion of Christian fellowship.

All Saints T-shirts and Sweatshirts· We are once again taking pre-paid orders for All Saints T-shirts and sweatshirts. After many requests, we have also made available hoodies and crewneck sweatshirts. Please see Dss. Cynthia for pricing and ordering. Orders will be taken over the next few weeks and placed on Tuesday, September 3. Get your order in this weekend!Dealing With Sin In Others· Dss. Cynthia is leading a discussion aimed at equipping Christians on dealing with sin in family, friends, and others. Interested youth and adults will meet in the parish hall at 9:45 a.m., during the Sunday school hour. This class will conclude before adult Sunday school reconvenes on September 8. Choir Members Needed· If you’ve been thinking about joining the choir, now would be the perfect time. No audition necessary, just some music-reading ability. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., and Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. Speak to Brian or one of the members. We’d love to have you to join us in glorifying God with our voices! Craft Market 2019· The date for this year’s event is Saturday, October 19. If you are a crafter, artist, knitter, etc. we need you! Please see Kathy Zwingert and become a part of this year’s event. If you would like to buy a table to sell your goods, see Barbara Conner or Cynthia Hensley for a registration form. St. Bartholomew, Apostle· Holy Communion tomorrow, Saturday, August 24 at 12:00 p.m., prior to the Deanery Picnic. Potluck Sunday· Our Sunday fellowship lunches will be starting up again on Sunday, September 8. For our first Sunday back, we will be having a potluck meal. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. Please let us know what you will be bringing. The meat will be provided by the church.Wednesday Night Bible Study· Our Wednesday night Bible study will return to its regular schedule on Wednesday, September 11. Until then, we continue to celebrate Holy Communion each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Food Bank· Bread of Life in Transylvania County is this month’s recipient of our in-gathering of food stuffs.
